Did someone say pump kin spice latte? Totally kidding. Feeling a bit basic with the anticipation of the fall season. All things considered, this year I decided to start earlier than usual. You know what I mean, pumpkin spice everything. I’ve really been enjoying the last week updating our space with all the layers and ALL. THE. COZY.
Since having kids I’m more aware of the environment we live in and the happy memories I want to help create (not saying that you have to have kids, to do the same). If you’ve been following for a while you know I’m a big believer in creating a space that you love and feel comfortable in (read more here). And this year more than ever, I’d like to experience a fall season even if the weather here in Texas doesn’t seem to cooperate.
I started with our fireplace by swapping out my blue and white collection for some silver coin eucalyptus, candles, and other accessories below. I was so excited to find fresh eucalyptus this year, after I looked all over for it last year but came up short. I was so disappointed I had to use faux. Lesson learned! (don’t know why but Moira Rose’s voice comes to mind, Schitt’s Creek anyone?) You can kind of see my precious eucalyptus starting to wilt below…turns out the faux works way better (duh!).
All that being said, thought I would share some ideas on updating your space for fall with the start of September (round one) since I’ll soon be swapping out my sad looking garland for the faux stuff and plan on adding pumpkins once they hit stores.
A couple quick, easy and affordable things I usually update seasonally are textiles like pillows, throws and curtains. It’s amazing what changing out our sheer gauzy curtains for a heavier pile does for a space. Then, I move to the accessories like candle sticks, books and decorative objects. Below are few styles similar to the items around our home.
My fall picks:
Mixing different textures from pillows to throws is one way to instantly add some warmth and dimension to the room. Another thing to consider is the smell. Bring on the Pumpkin Spice! 😉 I’m kidding (sort of). If you’re not big into Pumpkin Spice, there are other great fall scents that’ll do the trick. I just picked up this fragrance and it has our downstairs feeling nice and homey, especially when we’re cuddled up on the couch at night after the kids have gone to bed and we have this candle burning. I also picked up a couple of these for upstairs. Ahhhh, just the thought of fall and getting all cozy on the couch makes me smile.
Speaking of cuddling up, I have to mention story time. I love picking out seasonal stories to get us all in the mood for a little temperature change. I enjoy teaching the kids about the different seasons and pointing out all the expected changes to come, like the changing color of the leaves, the way we dress and the fun activities we can do like making smores, collecting leaves and carving pumpkins.
