Something I’ve learned about myself over the last 5 years or so, is that I have a love for interior decorating. I am constantly inspired by Pinterest, Instagram, magazines, and HGTV. I can’t tell you how sick my husband is of all of our throw pillows! (Such an easy and inexpensive way to update!) I’ve always had a thing for wanting everything around me to be beautiful and comfortable. I’ve seriously been cheating on my wardrobe with home decor. I just feel like make our house a home is a project that’s ever-evolving.
I remember getting made fun of when I was younger because I would get excited about decorating my room. I would tell my friends about the updates I made, like one particularly cool project (to me, at least) was hanging a bamboo floor mat on my wall transforming it into a bulletin board. I wanted everyone to come over and see and be just as excited as I was. Unfortunately at that age, unless it was stupid funny or about boys no one seemed to care. I’ll never forget some smartass being like “Katherine gets excited about changing her light bulb!” Which actually make me laugh now, looking back on it. So I was a dork… whatevs.
A show my husband and I enjoy watching on the weekends is HGTV’s Fixer Upper with Chip and Joanna Gaines. Talk about #relationshipgoals. They keep us laughing as Chip horses around and finds the fun in every situation, and Joanna (or “JoJo,” as Chip refers to her) tries her hardest to keep a straight face and remain all business. I love watching them take couples to a few old dilapidated houses and pointing out the places’ potential with a little renovating and some good TLC.
This week, I was in Waco for work and on our way out of town, we decided to stop by their shop, Magnolia Market + Garden. Heaven on earth, I was so excited! I’d been once before but wasn’t sure what to expect. It’s such a dream; so bright and airy with its sweet farmhouse chic style. If you have a love of all things rustic, I highly recommend you make a trip! It’s like inspiration overload. I left wanting EVERYTHING and having an urge to redecorate. Which lucky for me, we are in the process! I went with the intention of bringing home a Bakery sign to hang in my kitchen, but they were sold out. Waaaaahh! 🙁 So, I’ll remain on the waiting list until they get more in!
Magnolia has the most beautiful faux florals, from white succulents and sage to peonies and of course their namesake, magnolias. I have a serious weakness for reclaimed wood, so I swooned of the trays, cake stands, and signs. Oh, the signs, so lovely with their sweet messages sure to put in any old grump in a better mood. Then there were the wired baskets ( which you can never have enough) with so many uses and the endless inspiration of beauty all around.
Below are some beautiful examples of Joanna’s interior design work, all from HGTV!
