A Winning Mindset

The gymnastics competitions are one of my favorite sporting events to watch during the summer Olympics. Everyone’s back stories are so inspirational. These young ladies sacrifice day in and day out, practicing and perfecting their craft to make it to the games, and they’re so young! It makes me think of what I could accomplish if I stayed focus with my goals always top of mind, while not trying to take life too seriously, as I have a hard time doing.

As I’ve mentioned before, I have a list of things I’d like to get done in the next couple of months, and I’m feeling the pressure as we count down the days until we become parents. I’m just trying to take it one day at a time, as there’s value in taking small steps, and I keep trying to remind myself that nothing great or worthy of attaining happens overnight.

With it being Monday, I want to start this week with some goals in mind, and to do a little each day to make sure that I’m getting closer to where I want to be.

  1. Start with a list

I like having a to-do list. Marking things off as I go gives me great satisfaction and a feeling of accomplishment when I can look and see everything I’ve accomplished at the end of each day. I start by noting everything that needs to get done each week and prioritize by day, even adding to it and shifting priorities as things pop up.

  1. Stay motivated

When things start to get tough, remember why you started. Try to recall the feeling of excitement the first time you thought “I can do this” or “I want to do this!” It helps me to have a vision board to remind myself. I also have a small inner circle of friends and family that I can count on to keep me motivated with their positivity and support when things seem to get off track.

  1. Control what you can

…and let the rest go. If plans change or shift, you have to be flexible and move on. There’s no use in stressing over what’s out of your control. With that being said, there’s a quote that I feel fits this so well, “be stubborn about your goals, and flexible about your methods.”
