Keeping it Simple

Happy New Year! Hope this post finds you doing well and that your year is off to a great start. As I write this post, I’m sitting sick in bed on a Friday night (I know, sounds like a drag right?)! Wrong. Ha! Although I feel terrible, I feel like I’m forced to break away from my typical day-to-day and slow down (which I’m so thankful for)!

Let’s talk New Year’s Resolutions, shall we? This year, (err, or last – 2017) I took the week between Christmas and New Year’s off for a little me time, which consisted of reorganizing our closets, cleaning the house and reflecting while doing so (Man, have times changed #adulting). It was so worth it! Everyday I did a little bit at a time, between chasing the baby around, playing, feeding and changing dirty diapers. While straightened things up, I really put some thought into what I wanted to focus on doing in 2018 that would help me reach my goals. Here’s what I came up with.

1. Stop worrying.

I want to stop worrying about the things that are out of my control and focus on what is; my feelings, actions and reactions.

2. Grace

I will hold myself to a standard of grace and not perfection.

3. Wake up Early

I’ve scheduled time for myself each morning to spend it in prayer and to set intentions and goals for the day. It’s nothing extensive. Even if it’s 10 minutes, I wake up before the baby, go downstairs to grab coffee and prepare our lunches. While doing so, I think through the day, get my thoughts straight and pray.

4. Say No More Often

I’m typically easy going. You know, the type that “goes with the flow.” However, I’ve realized that by going with the flow too often, it ends up compromising my time and goals. I want to live my life with intention and purpose, which means I’ll have to start saying no to things that I don’t really want to do and make time for what I do.

5. Give 2018 to the Lord.

I’ve decided to conscientiously give this year to the Lord. To let go of stress and worry and hold on to faith and I hope that you’re able to do the same!

I believe that if I’m able to live my life remembering to do these five things each day, it will be an amazing year!

Did you make resolutions for yourself this year? Big or small, I’d love to hear them! Let me know by commenting below.
